What is a 1098-T form?
The purpose of a 1098-T form is to report to you qualified educational expenses while you were a student at a college to provide information related to your eligibility for certain tax credits and benefits.
How will I receive my 1098-T form?
You may receive an email communication similar to the one below from efile4biz on behalf of CIAT. EFile4biz provides an interface to deliver the 2023 1098-T directly to you and to report this information to the IRS.
What information can I gain from my 1098-T?
Depending on your income (or your family’s income, if you are a dependent), whether you were considered full or half-time enrolled, and the amount of your qualified educational expenses for the year, you may be eligible for a federal education tax credit. You can find detailed information about claiming education tax credits in IRS Publication 970, page 9.
The dollar amounts reported on your Form 1098-T may assist you in completing Form 8863; the form used for calculating the education tax credits that a taxpayer may claim as part of your tax return. Use this link to find information on Form 8863.
What if I did not receive the email, can CIAT resend it to me?
Every year we have students that did not receive the form. If this happens, please email accountingteam@ciat.edu and request your 1098-T form.
Do I need to create an account with efile4biz?
You will be given the option to download your form via the email you received or have a paper document mailed.
What if I am having trouble with the online identification verification, where do I go for support?
Please start by reaching out to the efile4biz customer support team if you need support with the online portal or identify verification. If you need any further assistance, please email us at accountingteam@ciat.edu and we'll send you your forms directly via email.
There is no IRS requirement that you must claim the tuition and fees deduction or an education credit. Claiming education tax benefits is a voluntary decision for those who may qualify. CIAT is unable to provide you with individual tax advice, but should you have questions, you should seek the counsel of an informed tax preparer or adviser.
